Frito Boat Follow-up

As for the frito boats, i have figured out the mystery. After doing a lttle googling and polling i have discovered why i thought everyone in the world had heard of frito boats. I'm pretty sure that they were invented by the California school districts as a school lunch. I sent an e-mail to all of my friends from various places throughout California and they all knew what frito boats are, they all (except one) assumed everyone in the united states knows what they are, and most of them said they LOVED them (and that wasn't one of my questions).

Do a google search for frito boats and you find blogs that talk about them (written by people from central cali), school lunch menus, and various bars and snack bars that serve them on the menu. There are various descriptions on how to make them but I must say, I have NEVER cut open a bag of fritos and pured the chili directly in.

So, for those of you whom have yet to discover what a frito boat is, it's fritos with chili poured over them, topped with cheese and onions. I personally prefer green onions, cheddar cheese & tapatio.

Next Sunday dinner it's all about the frito boat. You don't like it, you don't come.

An apology may be needed

As Alex and I were having dinner last night I was telling him how good Frito Boats are when you add hot dogs. He then told me he didn't know what a "Frito Boat" was. I was in total shock, I just couldn't believe it. I thought everyone had heard of them.

Apparently, I was wrong. I just asked two of my coworkers and they didn't know either.

So, who knows what a Frito Boat is? Did you grow up eating them? Am I the only one that does?

Hilarity ensues...

...in my living room as I look to see why I had so many hits on my blog yesterday. Then, as I looked at my search strings I realized that all the perverts in the world were searching for the new Carl's Jr. ad with the "Scantily clad" Paris Hilton and instead had to see the horrifying picture of the Burger King Queen.

Haha.

real weather, coupled with birthday memories

The weather the last few days has been so much fun. People in Seattle are so obsessed with the weather, but there is no weather in Seattle. It's really the Southern California for people that like rain. The temperature varies so little, the forecast varies so little (it's either partly cloudy with a chance of sun breaks or partly sunny with chance of showers). This is what spring is supposed to be like; sunny and clear as can be followed by massive downpours and lightning. I miss storms.

There were very few good things about my birthday last year. Sure, I was in Boston with a great friend of mine that I hadn't seen in a long time, but the only reason I was with that friend was because the week before my birthday I got completely screwed over and betrayed by a good portion of my closest friends. I've never had much luck with birthdays, maybe mine falls in a bad time of year. When I was in college it was guaranteed that I would have a final either on my birthday or the morning after. Luckily my 21st birthday was on the last day of finals and they ended earlier, anyway, I digress.

Last year on my birthday, while in Boston, I was lucky enough to have mother nature take pity on me and give me the most amazing lightning storm right after Collin and I had stumbled drunkenly back to our hotel and curled up in our cozy beds (note: that is beds, plural). I think Collin had passed out and unfortunately for him (there was a lot of unfortunate for Collin that week) I woke him up with my excitement and we watched together as the lightning continued to split the sky open for over an hour. It was absolutely thrilling and made me so happy.

New Burger King Ad

This photo has been going around for a while, however, with the introduction of Carl's Jr.'s new ad campaign starring the scantily clad Paris Hilton, I though Burger King might want to take advantage of it...

Because really, we all feel like princesses when we eat at B-King, right?

I feel human again

As I lie on my couch trying not to cough up a whole lung, all I can think is how wonderful it feels. Blood is pulsing through my veins at a rate I haven't felt in 6 months. I rode my bike to work today for the first time since I hurt my knee November 2, 2004. This morning it felt so good to have the cool air blowing through my hair, my eyes watering and tears rolling down my face, scared to death going straight down Madison to Western (damn those streets are steep). Of course that was the easy part, after slightly struggling up to the top of pill hill from 12th and Union, I don't think I even had to pedal the rest of the ride. I though for sure I would have to walk a good portion of the way home (afterall, it is pretty much straight up). I planned out my route (Western to columbia to 1st to cherry to s. main to 5th s. to s. jackson to 12th s. to union to home) by choosing what I thought would be the least steep, not shortest distance. Much to my surprise I was able to make it the whole way home without getting off the bike. I was passed by every other bike rider on the street, wanting to shout at each one, "I just had knee surgery, this is my first ride in 6 months!" to justify my extreme slowness. The feeling I have now makes it all worth it though. I may feel like I'll never catch my breath (imagine if I hadn't stopped smoking), my legs are made of jello and my body might collapse, but I finally feel normal again. Yippee, Yay!!

you may or may not notice...

i have added to my sidebox "are you looking for a proofreader or scopist." Every month I get hits on my site for "proofreader," scopist," "court reporting," etc. So, I figured why not try to give myself some advertising. The problem with this line of work is there is no way of advertising that you want work except really by word of mouth. As I've been looking for more work as a proofreader I have noticed that this seems to be a problem throughout the field and throughout independent contract work as a whole. Which is, I suppose, why most people end up joining employment agencies instead of working for themselves.
What do I do about this? Write more and more blog entries using the words "scopist" and "proofread" in hopes of attracting more people to ME!
