5th Grade Softball Photo

This picture is from my first year of playing softball. I was in the fifth grade, 11 years old. My dad is the guy on the left, he was our assistant coach. The other guy was my fifth grade teacher, Mr. Volpa. I think i remember a total of three of these girl's names. I only went to this school, Robinson, for fifth and sixth grade. I didn't really like it there much. I was active in my school though. I played softball, volleyball, basketball, ran cross country, was the school historian, participated in the spelling bee (pics to come), and won many different community awards -- what a dork!

only two weeks

Until Fresno. Fresno, fresno, fresno, it's all that's on my mind.

Here is the list of eateries as of today:
Saturday Breakfast - Sandy's Country Junction
Saturday Lunch - Me 'n Ed's (The Canadian website)

Saturday Snack - Robertitos (Alex can't get enough of the crunchy chicken tacos!

Sunday Breakfast - Uncle Harry's Bagels (peanut butter chocolate chip bagel, yummy)

Sunday Lunch - Plaza Ventana (Not the most authentic of mexican food, but I grew up on it and still crave it. Unfortunately they closed down the original, the one I truly loved.)

The rest of the places don't have specific eating times, but this list goes something like this:

Foster's Freeze (the one on the way to Yosemite)
El Cochinito Contento
Sam's Italian Deli (We did Piemonte's last time)
Shanghai - oh, yummy orange flavored chicken
Braun's Ice Cream - last time in Fresno I was crushed because two of their locations had gone out of business, on our way out of town though we drove by the one remaining ice ceram shop, they weren't open though :(

St. Melanie

For some reason this weekend, Alex was looking at St. Melanie. I found it absolutely hilarious that St. Melanie was highly revered by King Clovis...Clovis being the horrific town I went to high school in. Yay!! Go OTC!!

Yesterday marked the first time I played softball in about 13 years. I joined the bar league this year, playing on the Summit B team. Our first practice was yesterday. Surprisingly - aside from missing some fly balls due to severe sun-blinding - I wasn't that bad. I dove for some ground balls and had a few good hits. Today, however, I am so sore. My back is killing me. I was prepared for my knees to hurt, after all this was the most athletic I've been since the knee surgery, but my knees are no worse than any other day (apparently that walking five miles a day is paying off); my back and shoulders are killing me though.

It was a beautiful sunny day and we had a grand ol' time. This weekend, Alex and I will be off to the batting cage.

Coming soon: A picture of me the last time I actually participated in group sports.

blog makeover

i am attempting some blog makeover...however I know no CSS and hardly any html. so, if things look messed up that's why.

there are links to be added and links to take away.

basically it's getting a little old and outdated.

for the last four months at work I've been actually motivated to work while I'm there...that feeling is starting to fade however, so maybe the blog will be back on track.

Google Home page

I really like reading the wikiHow. How to do just about anything.

Today on my google home page, one of my How To of the Day's was How to Travel With One Bag. Interesting bits of advice, but they are more for global travel.

They did have one stellar piece of advise under the "Warnings" section:

Avoid fanny packs. Not only are they unfashionable, they draw unnecessary attention and make you look like a tourist (read: prime mugging target).

check it.

So, here are some things you should check out...

My friend from way back, Christie, has started her own business selling handmade bags and accessories. They are really cute and the company is named after her dog, Rosie. So go look at some of the Rosie Ro. designs.

The boy I like to call mine, or dork, whatever, Alex, has started posting some of his drawings on his blog, Something (yeah, I know, the name needs help).

Today I'm just not feeling the work vibe. So instead I'm making lists.

List No. 1 - What I need to complete grad school applications

List No. 2 - Where to eat while in Fresno

List No. 3 - Where to go while in Fresno

Oh, funny, now I'm making lists of lifts, what a nerd.

what's going on

I am officially a business owner!! I got my WA state UBI # yesterday. Melanie Davis d/b/a Perfect Proofing. All I have to do now is file with City of Seattle and I'll be completely legal.

Now I need a logo. If anyone has a really boring day and wants to create one for me, that would be highly appreciated. Appreciation might be shown in the form of coffee or beer.

I really suck at blogging lately. Life has been pretty mundane. Mostly it revolves around trying to get Brandy to stop barking so much. I have resorted to the squirt-her-in-the-face-with-a-water-bottle technique. It works, it's just a little embarrassing carrying a squirt bottle with me everywhere I go.

Just a week or so ago I got two new clients. Work is looking good this year. Maybe I'll finally be able to pay off my medical bills. I also switched my office hours at the Engineering firm. I'm now working 8:00ish to 12:30ish. It's so much better than working afternoons. I used to have to work afternoons because I had to cover the phones for the receptionist during her lunch. We made the new girl do that though. So now I work mornings and I have all afternoon and evening to myself. It is really bizarre. I always feel like I'm doing something wrong when I'm out the door at lunch time. It's fabulous though. I have so much more time. I used to go to work at noon and I would waste the whole morning.

What shall I do this afternoon? Go for a walk; watch a movie; sew; get drunk; do my taxes? Usually I don't have that much free time, but I don't have any proofing work this week...
