Since I apparently have nothing better to do
I will post more about Fresno. You see, it's not all about murder and rape in the Central Valley. It's about God turning to Porn. This must be some sort of horrible joke. I'm not sure how this station is going to last on the air, but I hope it's long enough for me to get to hear it next time I'm there.
On a positive - sort of - note, tomorrow should end Fresno's 21-day heat wave of over 100 degree temperatures.
In Fresno County's morgue, the walk-in freezer was stuffed with bodies, with some piled on top of others, said Coroner Loralee Cervantes. With limited air conditioning, employees worked in sweltering heat as they investigated at least 22 possible heat-related deaths.Copyright 2006 The Associated Press
Although I'm really hoping to move back to California soon, I'm certainly happy that I'm not there now.

Today in Seattle, it's barely supposed to hit 70, and the weekend has a chance of showers and temperatures in the 60s. Finally my apartment is cooling off. This was the first morning that my bathroom didn't feel like a sauna. I'm actually considering cooking tonight!

Finally a cloudy day!
There aren't many times in a year living in Seattle when you wake up to clouds and thank god! Today was one of the few. Finally breaking the heatwave that's hit the country over the last week or so. I know, 97 degrees isn't that hot. However, in a city where it's a luxury to have air conditioning and even most businesses don't have it, 97 is hard to bear.
I live on the top floor of a nearly 100-year-old brick building. The sun hits my apartment until it sets, which up North isn't until 9:00 at night. I've been sitting on my couch in my underwear misting myself and the dogs in front of a fan; going to sleep with ice packs; Sunday even had to go to the parent's house to sit in their basement. I'm pretty sure that for the last four days it has reached at least 100 degrees in my place.
I do feel bad for my family and friends in Fresno; even if you have A/C and a swimming pool, this kind of heat going on and on is really hard to deal with. It ruins your appetite, you can't get out to exercise, you lose all energy to do anything. The swimming pool is as warm as a bathtub and you are constantly worried about how you can afford to pay an electric bill for a house that has the A/C and fans running 24 hours a day.
This is an excerpt from msn.com:
The heat has taken a deadly toll in California, where Fresno County Coroner Loralee Cervantes reported 10 possible heat-related deaths in her area, including a man in his 40s found on a lawn Sunday with a body temperature higher than 109 degrees. © 2006 The Associated Press
Yesterday Fresno broke the record high of 108 with a whopping 113! Today they are expecting 112, it's not even below 90 by midnight!! The worst is that although Fresno is usually a "dry heat" which makes everyone this it's bearable, the last week or so it's been overcast and humid with chances of rain. I've been calling my sister to make sure my grandma is using her A/C and not worrying about costs.
This summer has been horrible for California. When I was there in June, it was 108 in Fresno. Hopefully it will be over soon!
Anyway, enough complaining for me, I'm going to take the dogs on a nice long walk, and not worry about them dying :)

Fresno makes headlines again??!!
Fresno must really be trying to make a name for itself this year. Either that or maybe Fresnans are trying really hard to stop the city's growth and rising housing costs by scaring people into not moving there.
While looking for the tragic story of the woman that died while in the car with her newly-wedded husband on their way to the airport in one of the Big Dig tunnels in Boston, I was distracted by the Popular Searches on msn.com. Lo and behold there was Fresno City College. Hmmm, how odd.
Oh, wait, whadya know, more Fresno athletes have been accused of rape. What a shocker! Now it's not even the big-time Fresno State athletes, even the junior college boys are getting involved in the fun. Apparently they are only after junior high girls however (note: I am aware that 11-year-olds are actually in elementary school, but it sounded more clever).
Front page of Fresno Bee today has the headlines of the Fresno State Basketball player that murdered an 18-year-old girl; and the story about the 11-year-old girl.
Go Fresno!! You rock.

I [heart] Gentle Souls and Lisa Nading
Mom, dad and anyone else I owe money to and/or constantly complain about being broke, just turn away now, stop reading.
I bought my most expensive pair of shoes ever yesterday. I think my ten-hole doc martens were probably close, and that was when I was probably 14 years old. At least those had enough leather to make them feel substantial and worth $120. This super fabulous shoe store, Pedz, in Seattle is changing ownership. In the meantime they are having a huge clearance sale. I tried my best to avoid going, but found myself standing across the street yesterday. Ooops, how did that happen? Anyway, before I knew it my feet were comfortably and sexily resting in a pair of Lisa Nading heels. Regular price $198. Oh my goodness. Was I really just about to purchase two hundred dollar shoes??!! I've always heard that the reason most people can't wear heels is because they buy cheap ones and that if you fork out the big bucks, the shoes are actually comfortable (as possible) and fit well and last a long time. From the minute, no the second, that I slipped my feet into those Delia shoes I knew those people were right. Luckily I got them at the amazing discount of 40% off, so they were only $120.
I will never be able to buy and wear cheap heels again. Uh-oh. What have I done? And in two weeks I have to go back, the sale goes down to 70% off, hopefully they won't have anything left in my size.
p.s. Mine are black with white piping, not brown.

The Heart of the Game
Everyone should go see The Heart of the Game. This documentary was inspiring, emotional and entertaining. I literally sat on the edge of my seat awaiting the outcome of the basketball games and the court decisions. Even though this was filmed in Seattle, in my opinion it doesn't make a difference where you live, you should just go see it.
It's playing in most of the Landmark Theaters.
