I [heart] socks

I really really like socks a lot. I have loved to buy fun socks for years and years. In high school I almost exclusively wore knee-high argyles. I was thrilled to find out about sock-dreams.com. I went home the very night that my coworker told me about this amazing sock-loving website. I bought $40 worth of socks. I was running around showing everyone in the office my awesome socks when they arrived. However, now, only a couple of weeks later I have a different opinion. I am sorely disappointed and will probably not order anything for sock dreams again. Two pairs of my new socks, bot of which have only been worn twice, have holes in them, big holes. Holes, like they have to go in the trash.

I'm sad and mad. I am also sorry if any of my friends who listened to me rave about how awesome this sock web site was and went and bought your own socks.

Close to entering day 24. Day 24 of what? you ask. The 24th day straight of raining is only hours away. I thought that by this point, going on my 4th rainy season in Seattle, I'd be more adjusted, able to handle it. This year, it's driving me crazy though. I understand, it's rainier than usual, they are talking possible breaking of records, but that is still 10 days away. Last year was exceptionally dry, the ski resorts didn't even open, so put that with this year which is exceptionally wet and it's a big change.

Usually when it "rains" in seattle, it doesn't actually rain, it just mists. It mists so lightly that you're dry by the time you walk in the door. This rain spell though, it's actually raining, real rain. Houses are flooding, hillsides are collapsing, my shoes are getting ruined (the rainboots don't match all my outfits), the raincoat is losing it's waterproof coating.

On top of all the rain, it's still only light between the hours of 8-5. I can't seem to get up in the morning anymore. Maybe I'm coming down with a case of SAD. I just keep dreaming of beaches and sunshine, but all I have to look forward to is Fresno in April...it should be nice there though.

I am longing for the Seattle summer days, filled with sun and 18 hours of daylight. It's our little secret you know, summers in Seattle are pretty much the most fabulous summers of all. Of course they only last about two months and they are so dry that you wish for an overcast day so that you can have an excuse to sit inside with a good book. You feel guilty for wasting any of those few and precious summer days.

Oh, and one tiny piece of advice: If you are new to Seattle or coming for a visit, there's really only one thing you need to know; do not step on anything metal. Do not walk on manholes, utility boxes, or anything else on the street or sidewalk that is made of metal. You will fall.

This could very easily turn into a rant about seattlites and umbrellas, but I think I'll let that go for now.

99 things that suck.

I have noticed that I haven't really been doing that much complaining. I used to complain and rant and whine constantly on this here blog. For some reason, however, it appears as though the last couple of weeks, or even months have brought me more cheer.

Well, down with cheer. Whaddya know, one day of rain and I'm back to my lovely grumpy self. I love it. Or should I say, "I'm loving it." AAAhhh. So here goes the beginning of my list of 99 things that suck:

1. McDonald's branding the saying, "I'm loving it."
This is so not fair. I mean that's such a common phrase, why should they be allowed to steal it from me. Bastards.

2. Seattle drivers.
Look, the road is clear, just pull out and turn already. Don't stop for me when I'm standing on the corner, what if I don't want to cross the street yet.

3. Seattle pedestrians.
It's hardly misting, put away the umbrella. Also, you really should share the sidewalk. Twice yesterday I had to shoulder check someone because it was either that or I had to jump the rail and land on I5 or walk into oncoming traffic.

4. Freelancing.
I was working so much before I went to part time that my doctor told me the reason I was sick so much last year was because I was working too much. At one point I even told my mom that I was making more money than I need. Now, I can hardly pay my rent.

5. Bumbershoot.
Did you see that STREB is performing EVERY DAY!

6. Bands that start their names with The (with the exception of The The).
The Decemberists
The Be Good Tanyas
The Waybacks
The Cops
The Locust
The Duhks
The Posies
The Bastards of Jazz
The Editorial We
The Donnas
The Ruby Doe
(all bands at bumbershoot)

7. Having joint custody of my dog.
Which goes along with a sub-item: 7.a. Having to see the ex-husband.

8. Knee surgery.
Not just the knee surgery, but the months and months of therapy which contributes to the never ending bills.

9. Wrist surgery the same year as knee surgery.
This will be my third, wait, no, fourth??

To be continued...

Hi, Fresno, this is Technology.

My love/hate relationship with Fresno continues. I was trying to compile an interactive list of all the restaurants I want to eat at while I'm in town with Alex in August, when it became realized that Fresno is not so interactive. I can't think of very many places that I frequent in Seattle that don't have their own websites. Most people I know have their own websites. The restaurants, coffee shops & stores that don't have websites at least have profiles on sites such as Citysearch. So, yes, a few of them did have websites, and I'm sure you will be just a impressed by them as I am. In the mean time, I have made a new goal for myself. I will go to the Fresno City search and enter information about every place listed that I possibly can. I think people deserve to know and I have a lot of free time on my hands at the moment.

So here goes my Not-so-interactive List of Restaurants to eat at in Fresno:

1. Shanghai Chinese Cuisine - This is one of my favorite sites. I was in absolute shock and hysterics to find out that Shanghai had a website. This is the Chinese restaurant that I spent 3 years of my life working and eating at. It has completely ruined my ability to eat most Chinese food. I don't know if it's as good as I think it is, but the orange flavored chicken, chinese chicken salad (yes, very american, I realize this), braised green beans and ginger chicken are to die for. Also the hot chicks in chinese dresses that greet you at the door.

2. DiCicco's - The best salad dressing & calzoni. I have yet to find a good calzone in Seattle. The thing about DiCicco's however is that they are all different, so I can only eat at the one on N. Cedar. This is the one that my family went to at least one Sunday a month after church.

3. Uncle Harry's Bagelry - A local chain of bagel shops that, until I moved to Seattle, I thought made decent coffee too. They have this peanut butter chocolate chip bagel that is delicious. Also you can get bagels with creams cheese and tomato slices, yummy.

4. Me-n-Eds Pizza - To my surprise while looking this place up I came to find out that there are Me-n-ed's pizzerias in the Vancouver area of Canada. The only place they exist out of Central California. I'm considering driving there this weekend. They have the best pizza of all time.

5. El Cochinito Contento - My favorite mexican restaurant in Fresno. Supposedly there are better ones, but this is my personal favorite.

6. Sam's Italian Deli or Piemonte's Deli - I really am having the worst time deciding which of these places I like better. I think the food at Sam's is better but the atmosphere at Piemonte's is better...picture Grandma Piemonte sitting on a stool and her 60-year-old, never-been-married son running the register, both of which are nearly deaf and you've gotta give them some credit, they at least try to have a website.

Anyway, I don't really remember where my mind was when this entry started, I think I had a plan and a focus...maybe it will come to me again some day.

warning sign

as if today isn't bad enough already (you know, that little thing called the presidential election), i wake up with a knee the size of a...well maybe cantaloupe would be appropriate if say the normal size is an orange. so my suggestion is that places need to start putting up warning signs for people without ACLs.

yeah, so i'm pretty sure i now officially need knee surgery. the problem is, i've switched insurance since my last injury and i don't know how all that crap works.
damn, this really sucks. just when i was getting back in shape, all excited to buy my new bike that i already had picked out. i suppose i could be wrong, but i'm thinking i may have even torn another ligament.
how? i might as well just get it out there now, jumping off the bench at a table at no place other than the summit. yes, i had had a few beers, but not near enough to warrant this.
i think my doctor told me jumping was bad. i guess that's a warning. however, let this be a warning to you...laugh at my huge knee brace, you'll be wearing one too.

oh, and i forgot, thank you, jason, for getting me home safely.

migraines suck.

Maybe it's time for me to go to the doctor, i don't know. I don't think my migraine cure is all that healthy; 4 shots of espresso and 2 excedrin migraine (approximately 250mg of caffeine). My stupid mom had to pass the lovely migraine gene down through ALL 3 of her children. My little sister started getting them when she was 2 years old.

I'm trying to start paying attention to the moments leading up to me getting them. i have yet to make any direct correlation with anything in my environment but i used to think they were caused by stress and i just recently learned that's a lie. it's about diet and sensory overload.

this morning's came on after i walked into a basement that was full of all sorts of crazy fumes. luckily i think i consumed enough caffeine in a short enough amount of time to avoid the worst of it. I just lost my vision for about an hour, no big deal.
